DIY Picnic Table From Curbside Find

2 Mins read

I never get tired of rescuing something from the side of the curb and breathing new life into it and getting to share it here with you! I think this DIY Picnic Table from a curbside find is crazy good.

While riding with the family a couple of weeks ago, Matt and I spotted this iron “stuff” on the curb. We always laugh about how we can spot curbside treasures from a mile away. As we got closer to the iron stuff, I thought we would just drive right past it. It was obviously a piece of something. It looked broken and I had no idea what it was.

No rescue this time. Then, Matt took a better look and got out of the van. He told me he thought it was a picnic table. I said, “What are you talking about?”

Does this look like a picnic table to you?

He picked the pieces up and held them out and I saw it! It was the base of a picnic table!!! We couldn’t get it in the van fast enough. We both knew this would be an amazing transformation. Rescuing this metal from the curb and turning it into a DIY Picnic Table would be so much fun!

You can tell which projects are our favorite when we can bring something home and by the end of the night, it is completed.

Matt remembered some thick boards we pulled from a barn a year ago. When he brought them out, we knew it would make this curbside picnic table makeover beautiful.

The first thing we did was spray paint the iron with flat, black Rustoleum spray paint.

It is amazing what spray paint can do on its own. The iron looked new again.

Matt only had to cut the boards down by a few inches and then he screwed them into the iron base. It is already beautiful!

Once we got all the boards secured, we sealed them all with Thompson’s Water Seal. We use this stuff all the time. It works great for pieces you have outdoors.

Every time I see the picnic table, I laugh because no one would believe how it started.

We have another picnic table in the back yard so I need to decide which one to keep. This one has already seen three dinners and a couple of smore nights. It is getting a lot of use.

It is the perfect time of year to find a piece like this on the curb. Picnic tables are great to have. You can seat a lot of people and keep them outdoors. The Thompson’s Water Seal will make sure this picnic table is good for years to come.

I hope this makeover inspires you to pay more attention to curbside treasures. This picnic table makeover was fairly easy and we were able to bring together things that were destined for the landfill! #winning!
