DIY Painted Table Makeover

4 Mins read

Happy Friday! We just got back from our trip to NYC and I have been scrambling to catch up on a lot of blog work. After the meeting in NYC, I felt excitement and eagerness to get back home to bring you more creative goodness. I will be writing a post about our adventures in NYC soon. One thing I did while I was on the plane was read all of your responses to the reader survey. Again, I want to thank each and every one of you who took the time to fill it out.

It really helps me plan the posts and projects throughout the year. The top posts you all want to see more of are DIY and furniture makeover posts. I am glad. Those are my favorite projects too and I couldn’t imagine not doing them. Today, this DIY Office Table Makeover is another home office update. I started this home office makeover on a budget with the before tour and then shared my easy DIY farmhouse office sign. I shared 5 tips for choosing white paint when I was choosing a paint color for the office. The bookshelf makeover was the first furniture makeover I shared for the office.

It is amazing what you can do with a few trim boards. Like very makeover around here, the home office is coming together slowly but surely. I have a few different needs than most home offices so trying to find pieces that can serve many purposes wasn’t going to be super easy (especially when you want to DIY it all and save a ton of money doing it.). This DIY Painted Table Makeover is one of the pieces I thought would serve well for creating on and also a great backdrop for videos.

This table was at my local Restore and the detail on it sold me.

Can we just take a minute and admire the details?

Of course, I don’t mind picking up a piece that has seen better days. This table had its bumps and bruises, but the wood and the details were the only things I saw. The top had holes in it and the red and black paint was not my favorite. The middle of the table has the worst wear too. All things that were part of the charm of this table and all things that I knew could be “fixed”.

All I did to this DIY Painted Table Makeover was clean it up really well and then I painted it a couple of coats of “Picket Fence” from Fusion Mineral Paint. To show some of the wood color through the white paint, I used my sander to rough it up a bit.

This DIY painted table makeover gives me extra work space. It is the perfect height to fit two bar stools under as well. I picked up this pair of bar stools off the curb! After some paint, they were the perfect addition to the home office. {If you follow me on Instagram, you can see all the behind the scenes hunts and inspiration I share.}

I always laugh when we are doing a makeover in our home. No matter where the makeover is taking place, when we get to a point where you can actually spend time it in, that is where our family hangs out. It happens with every makeover! Now, our daughter, Gabrielle likes to come into “mom’s office” and work on the table. Matt and Landen have been found in the office watching basketball games.

We are in the middle of making the tween room over as well and we have it set up to watch TV and we have spent many nights in it eating dinner for movie night. When this happens, it makes me so happy that I am making every room more comfortable for this family I love.

After I sanded the table down, you could really see more of the details is has to offer.

The holes in the table don’t bother me. It adds to the story and character. I am thinking there was a light attached to the corner of the table?? Maybe it was some kind of entry table in a church, office or library? Who knows. It is just fun thinking of the stories and places it could have been in its past life.

I got this table before I found the bookshelves. As I am getting all these things inside the room, I am rethinking where I need what.

Right now, the table fits well under one of the windows in the office, but I may have it float in the center of the room and then add more storage under the window. You all know me… it will change a few times until I get it just right.

I have to tell you about the green piece on top of the table. It is one of my favorite finds of all time. I found it at a yard sale. It was apart when I found it. It was in a pile on the driveway.

I bought the pile because of the old wood and the green paint. I didn’t care what it was, but I knew I could use the wood for something. When I got it home, Matt started looking at it and put it together! IT IS AMAZING! I just haven’t found the perfect spot for it yet.

Right now, it is on the DIY painted table and holds the phone stand I need to record videos, but it is not the best spot for it. It is working for the time being while we get the rest of the room done.
