Now that the football season is over, our family is fully wrapped up in the basketball season. Basketball is our favorite sport and we like watching our favorite teams. Just like the football season, I am all about cooking and entertaining for all the games we watch.

Our last game party was all about Black Box Wine, a yummy dip, a sweet “date”, DIY coasters and fun wine charms and games.

The star player of this party was Black Box Chardonnay wine. Black Box Wines have won over 50 Gold Medals for its quality and are available for 40% less than comparable bottled wines.

I thought some hot dips would be great for the game. I made my Gruyère & Caramelized Onion Dip With Bacon.

Gruyere and Caramelized Onion Dip

  • 4 strips bacon
  • 2 onions thinly sliced
  • Hot sauce
  • 2 c. shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 3/4 c. plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 c. mayo
  • Crushed red pepper flakes
  1. Cook the bacon until crispy.
  2. Once it is cool, cut it in small pieces and set aside.
  3. Cook the onions in a skillet over medium heat with a little olive oil. You want the onions to caramelize so cook them until they are a deep brown color. Stir them often and watch them so they don’t burn.
  4. Once the onions are done, mix all ingredients together and spread in a shallow pie dish (or any oven-safe dish you want to serve it in).
  5. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes or until it is bubbly and golden on the top.
  6. Serve with crackers or baguette slices.

I didn’t put an amount for the hot sauce or the red pepper flakes because it depends on how spicy you like it. If you don’t like any spice at all, leave it out.

Hot dips are always a crowd pleaser!

You may want to double the batch so there is enough to last through half time. 🙂

I also made blue cheese stuffed dates with almonds and honey. YUMMO!

Of course, no party around here goes on without a little DIY project. I made basketball coasters with four simple supplies.

  • Orange craft paint
  • Black puffy paint
  • Paint brush
  • Dollar Tree cork coasters

I painted the cork with orange craft paint and then added basketball lines with the black puffy paint. It was an easy and inexpensive project that made the party a slam dunk. 🙂

I used different colored whistles as wine charms. They worked great and the guests used them during some of the games we played. Then, they had something fun to take home to their kiddos.

I needed to put the Black Box Wine on something high so we could easily fill our glasses. I was excited to bring out one of my vintage scales for this.

It worked perfect!

We added this buffet area to our dining room a few years ago. It has been the best thing for parties like this. I can set everything up on the counter and it still leaves the dining table for games at the party.

Black Box wine is premium quality wine at half the price of bottled wine that stays fresh for up to six weeks. The first glass is as fresh as the last! One box of Black Box wine is equal to 4, 750 ml bottles of wine. It was the perfect size for our party.

I see many more basketball parties in our future.

This was a perfect way to start them off.
