The new year brings about a lot of emotions and feelings for me. It is a time to reflect, rejoice and get excited for what’s to come. As I get older, it becomes more and more evident that time is not slowing down. There is no better time than the present time. With that realization always lurking in the back of my mind, I want to make a conscious effort to be present in every moment of 2017. Not only do I like to reflect, but the new year makes me want to get rid of excess and only live with what we love and need. I am an organizing fool this time of year. The first space I have been trying to get ready for 2017 is a home office. Since I made bitter-sweet changes in 2016, a home office is of utmost importance. Since I can’t bring you the office reveal today, I wanted to share some of the things that will make office organizing fun and practical.
I am still going with an eclectic, cottage farmhouse feel in the office and find that the more pretty my office organizing is, the most time I am spending in it. Is that a good thing? Like I shared in my New Year Resolution post on Tuesday, I love positive affirmations and little notes of encouragement. I find that having them around really does change my mood and outlook. I made some fun printables with encouraging words in that post that you can print off and put in your home. I thought this mobile was perfect for holding little notes and affirmations in an office.

I have a galvanized wall organizer, but I love this wood version. I use mine for things I need to grab quickly or that I use often. It would be perfect for mail as well.
Clip boards! I made a wall in the office made up of six clip boards. I am planning on using them to keep my week organized. We’ll see how that pans out. Sometimes my visions work better than real life. Anyone else?
I need something to keep all my pens, pencils, scissors, etc. in quick reach on my desk. I like the carousels because they spin easily and they hold a lot.
Wire baskets have my heart. I use them for so many things. I hung a crib spring on the wall behind my desk and hung a wire basket on it. It will be holding all kinds of things.
Glass jars. Love them and use them all over the house. They are great in my office for crafts supplies, washi tape, markers, etc. I couldn’t imagine office organizing without glass jars.
I have old, wood boxes all around the house. I have them in my office as well. I thought these wood boxes from Target were so fun. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a wall full of the stackable wood bins?
Chalkboards are so great for many rooms, but perfect for an office. As of now, I don’t have one in my office. I painted over the huge chalkboard wall that was in the room before to make it brighter. I also needed a backdrop for taking pictures. I will figure out a way to get a chalkboard in the room in the end.
Matt does not think I need any file storage, but I beg to differ. I just want a couple of “drawer storage” pieces and I think a great filing cabinet will fit the bill. I still don’t have one for the office. I am hoping I can find something that I can makeover to fit my needs.
I hope these pieces have inspired you to get your office a little more organized. If your work space is pretty and functional, just think of all the things you can accomplish in 2017! I am excited to get my office done so I can share it with all of you. Stay tuned.
