On Monday, I shared my Fall Mantel with you. Through Thursday, the Fall Ideas Tour is happening with a different theme each day. I put the links to each tour at the end of this post. Grab a cup of whatever you love and sit back and browse through them all.
For my mantel, I wanted to shop my home to put it together.
I always start any decorating project by shopping my home.
This fall, I edited a lot of the decor I had. We are having a huge sale at the end of this month so there will be plenty of fall and Halloween items for sale.
I wanted to make things more simple and more neutral this year. When I was shopping our home, I came up with a couple easy projects that brought “fall” to our home without being over the top.
For my first project, I used an old frame and burlap ribbon.
I had some pumpkin burlap ribbon and regular burlap ribbon that I alternated on the frame.
Then, I hot glued a piece of cardboard on the back to hold the ribbon in.
The next project was inspired by some pumpkins I saw in a store.
They were $15 each!!!
They were neutral and pretty, but I knew I could make my own for free.
I painted two orange pumpkins I bought at The Dollar Tree a couple of years ago neutral colors.
Then, I added some Antiquing Wax from Country Chic Paint to them.
Since we don’t have tons of table space in our home to set a bunch of decorations on, I decided to put these pumpkins on top of each other and then add a twine pumpkin to the top. I took the stem off the white pumpkin and hot glued the green one on top of it and then the twine pumpkin on top of the green.
I love being inspired and then coming home and making something better than what inspired me. This fall decoration cost me nothing and it doesn’t take up a lot of space on the end table.
The “fall” sign on the mantel was made from a broken table top. I bought the table and all of its legs in a box at a yard sale. I didn’t want to make anything permanent, so I used chalk for the word.
So, for the grand total of FREE, I have brought fall to our living room and mantel.
I love decorating this way.
Sometimes, I will clear out an entire room so I have a blank slate and then start shopping the furniture and accessories in other rooms to get an entire new look. It is a great way to love the things you already have again, to highlight different pieces that might be getting lost in the space they are currently in and to save money.
These fall decorations came together in about an hour. I used only things I had on hand and I am happy with the outcome. Now, I can spend the money I saved on some tea and a good magazine.
