Christmas Home Decor That Is Simple & Festive

4 Mins read

It is Christmas home tour time! That is a mouthful. Try and say that 10 times fast.

Every year, I feel like I simplify our Christmas decor more and more. As soon as we grab the bins out of storage, I start looking through everything to see what I want to keep and what I want to get rid of from previous years. I buy Christmas home decor throughout the year at yard sales, thrift stores, and at the end of the Christmas season on clearance, so I never remember what is in all the bins. I always tell Matt that we need to have a winter yard sale with everything I get rid of. 🙂

This year, I wanted to keep the colors black, white, and green with little hints of red here and there. My love for green and black runs deep so having that in our Christmas home decor is a no-brainer.

I started decorating our $2.99 mantel (you can see that project HERE) first. I have had the most fun with this new addition in our living room. It was the first thing I wanted to decorate for the holidays. I kept it fairly simple because we put our Christmas tree right next to it this year. It is the first time we have had our tree in this spot and we are really liking it. Living in a smaller home means that we don’t have a ton of options when decorating so when I try something new and it works, I get excited. It is funny how changing up where the tree goes can make it feel like all the Christmas home decor is brand new.

I get asked a lot about where I get the things in our home, so I thought I would go through this tour telling where I found things and how it all comes together to make a cozy Christmas home tour. I got the striped pillows at Target last year and the CHEER pillow is a Hallmark find that I bought at an estate sale. The skates were also an estate sale find. The stockings are new for us this year. I bought them at the end of the season clearance at Michaels last year. The ornaments hanging from the stockings were clearance finds at Target

I bought the pom-pom garland around the mirror at Marshalls. The green books I always have on display, but I wanted to break them up with different colored books. I found the cream and red books at an estate sale just a few weeks ago.

The flocked tree on the mantel was a thrift store find this summer and the basket is something we have in our house all year round.

I found the JOY, Hobby Lobby letters at a thrift store! I knew I wanted to hang them in our front entry and maybe add something to them once they were up. But, after Matt got them hung, I liked them as they were. See, the simpler the better for me.

I like to add festive decor to the table between the chairs in our living room. This year, I filled my Kirklands wood tray with some faux greenery and pine cones. Then, I laid some of our white Christmas ornament balls in the tray after tying Hearth & Hard ribbon to the top of them. This brought in the black I needed in the tray. Then, I painted some thrift store wood houses white and added those to the tray. Easy peasy.

The other side of the living room got a facelift. We had a piece from an old dresser (see my favorite thing to do with pieces like this HERE) in the garage. I painted it and had Matt hang it above our barn wood shelf. Then, I hung the mini, cable knit stockings from Target on it.

I added some of the mini flocked trees from Target that I am obsessed with this year. They are $3 and the medium-sized ones are only $5! They are so much better than the trees that are in Bulleye’s Playground this year. I added some yard sale greenery and my favorite cable knit garland to the top of the dresser piece to complete this little display.

This little corner became one of my favorites because of the architectural pieces Matt found a few weeks ago at a thrift store. He face timed me because he thought he found something I might like. As he was taking these pieces out of the box, I asked him to rearrange them like we have here on the wall. As soon as I saw he had three triangular shapes, I immediately thought “Christmas tree”. Matt was worried that some of the pieces were missing from a couple of the triangles, but that made me want them even more. They are full or character and this wall art may just have to stay up all year round.

The glass cabinets in the dining room got some fun additions for the holidays. I will never get tired of my vintage Santa mugs. They are a festive touch for the holidays. I added vintage thermos’ and other vintage Christmas decor to these cabinets.

I also added the mailbox I bought at Walmart to the cabinet and some items I will use for our hot cocoa bar!
