DIY Coastal Decor

2 Mins read

Coastal decor is really popular. Right now, all of my favorite stores are packed FULL with it! Even though I wish we lived closer to the ocean, I am not necessarily drawn to coastal-themed decor (or any “themed” decor for that matter). With that being said, I do think a few coastal touches here and there during the summer months is always fun.

When I spotted these galvanized milk canisters at a yard sale, I had to bring them home.

They were faded, falling apart, but……. FREE!

I had plans for them as soon as I saw them.

When I first saw them, I thought farmhouse. Then, I started thinking about mixing a little coastal vibe to the farmhouse feel and I could come up with something that would be great for summer, but that I could use all year long.

I removed the faded twine.

The canisters looked so much better just by removing the twine.

To make them “coastal”, I hot glued natural twine all around them

Even though these cans only stand about 12″ tall, it took forever to wrap them! It is a great project to do while catching up on your favorite TV programs (Fixer Upper anybody??).

To add a little something extra to these milk canisters, I used a couple of wood planks I had.

I stained them a dark color.

Then, I used the Brush Script Alpha Stencil Mask to add some letters and numbers to them.

After the paint dried, I sanded them a little bit.

I hung the planks different ways on the canisters.

Who likes to have everything the same? 😉
