A few months ago, I tried this process to see How To Create Aged Copper Patina On Wood & Metal. It was such a fun and EASY process that I had to try it on plastic to see if it would work. I was so happy when it turned out just as good. If you want to see a live video of me explaining the process and how it works, head over to that post to find it.

Here is a video showing you the process of how easy these DIY Aged Copper Jack-O-Lanterns were to create:

The longest part of this process is waiting for the primer and paint to dry between layers.

You have to do two coats of each to get the best outcome. More coats if it isn’t covering. I used a hair dryer to speed up the drying process between coats and it didn’t affect the outcome at all. After I sprayed the Green Patina on the last layer of the copper paint (while it was still wet), I let the bucket sit. I didn’t use the hair dryer to speed this part of the process up because I wasn’t sure if it would ruin the aging process. This project is so satisfying because it is simple to do, it doesn’t take long to see the outcome and it works every time! You can’t mess it up. AT ALL!

As always, turning something inexpensive into something totally different is fun. Bright orange, plastic jack-o-lanterns aren’t particularly pretty, but when they have an aged copper patina, that are turned into something I would actually use around our house for Halloween. I set up a little tablescape with these guys to show how great they would be full of snacks or treats for a party.

You don’t use much of the products listed above. So, they last forever and you can use them on anything! You get a lot bang for your buck which always makes me a happy creator.

I have now tried it on wood, metal and plastic and got the same outcome on all of them. The possibilities are endless!

What would you transform with this aged copper patina? My mind is already racing with ideas now that I know if works on all kinds of surfaces.
