DIY Restoration Hardware Dupe – Stone Pedestal

2 Mins read

I am so excited about the outcome of this DIY Restoration Hardware dupe for their cast iron pedestal!

I found this piece at a yard sale and had to bring it home. It is a heavy piece and it reminded me of vintage French pieces I have seen online.

I liked it when I found it, but as I was browsing online one night for something different, I ran into this amazing cast iron pedestal on Restoration Hardware

It looked just like the piece from the yard sale, but different.

I could not believe how similar the piece was. The piece I found was a lot more “yellow” (for lack of a better word) than this one. It was pretty, but I loved the look of the Restoration pedestal so much more.

I had to try and recreate that look.

Here is my YouTube video showing you what the pedestal looked like when I bought it and the process I used to get the look I wanted.

To get the look I wanted, I needed to find a base color that would start me off on the right foot.

I tried a few colors and the “French Linen” from Dixie Belle paint was PERFECT.

How To Get The Restoration Hardware Look

I put one coat of the “French Linen” on the pedestal first. Once that was dry, it was time to layer some other colors to get the look I was after.

Again, I tried a few colors to see what worked best and the brown and black craft paint was the right mix.

I like using a chip brush for projects like this because I am doing a lot of “stippling” and not really brushing the paint on.

For a project like this, I do a dry brush technique (I share that in the video above). Dry brushing basically means getting most of the paint off of the brush before putting it on the piece you are adding it to. I didn’t want to cover the piece with black and brown craft paint. I wanted it to look like stone and little bits of brown and black paint through the dry brush technique were giving me that look.

This was such an easy project once I had the colors figured out.

Restoration Hardware Dupe To Get The Look For Less

I am so thrilled with the outcome!

It gave me the look I was after. It looks more like stone and not the yellow hue it was when I got it.

I liked the original color of the piece, but when I saw the Restoration Hardware pedestal, I was smitten. It had the exact shape and detail of my piece, but the color was so much better for our home.

This is another great example of how you can get the exact look you want for your home without breaking the bank! This piece cost me less than $1o. The Restoration Hardware piece is close to $100!
