DIY Wooden Planter Box

2 Mins read

Every fall and spring, I organize a neighborhood sale for our block. I get a little stir crazy about every six months and want to purge everything that we don’t use or love anymore. It always happens after a long winter or when school starts so the fall and spring yard sales are perfect. Not only do I go through our house for things to get rid of, but I also go through out garage. This Wooden Planter Box came about after I was rummaging through my “upcycle stash”.

Directions To Make This Wooden Planter Box:

To start this project, we had to “beef up” the inside of the box with a couple of pieces of scrap wood. This added extra support when the legs were screwed to the bottom.

Next, Matt used the Miter Saw cut the spindles down to the size we wanted our fall planter to stand. Then, he drilled holes in the bottom of the box for the legs to fit inside.

We used liquid nails and screws to secure them.

I painted it a color I mixed from left over paint and Matt surprised me and made a lid for it. “Just in case you want to use it for something else”, he said. He knows me so well.

I had these metal stencils for a long time and thought the box would be a fun project to use them on. (You can find similar stencils here .)

I used small nails and hammered them into the side.

The green color with the orange mums is so pretty. We left the mums in their pots just in case I change my mind for this planter.

Crazier things have happened. 😉

I am so glad I put some of my “upcycled stash” to good use. I am constantly working on trying to use what I have in there. One project at a time.

Do you plant mums or have a favorite fall flower? What would you use this fall planter for?
