Green Painted Dresser Makeover

3 Mins read

This Green Painted Dresser Makeover makes a big statement with its new color and look.

I had some luck finding dressers to make over right before this Corona Virus hit. This is the last dresser I had in my “project pile” to complete before everything shut down and I couldn’t go out and hunt for new projects.

I shared the entire process I use every time I paint in  dresser in my post How To Paint A Wooden Dresser. There is a process to follow every time that will make the work easier and will give you the best outcome. Make sure to head to that post to get all the details.

I picked up this dresser at my local Restore. It had so many cute details, but it also had some issues.

The bottom part of the dresser had some veneer that was chipping off and someone just put a heavy coat of poly on top of that area. I have shared the easy way to remove veneer from furniture, but since this was such a small area, I used one of my favorite tools – the Wagner Heat Gun. I have tried many heat guns, but this one is my favorite. It under three minutes, I had all the chipped veneer off the bottom part of the dresser. I use a small putty knife and peel back the veneer when the heat gun gets it warm enough. Once the veneer was off, I used my orbital sander and sanded down the bottom piece to make it smooth and ready for paint.

Once I had that part of the work done, I could appreciate the fun details the dresser had.

Now, it was time to plan the makeover.

House & Canvas sent me a paint color and wax to try. They knew my love for all things green, so they sent me their “Evergreen” color. The also sent me their furniture wax in the color “Walnut”.

Of course, I grabbed one of my favorite paint brushes from Zibra Paint to get the job done. I have sung the praises of these brushes so many times. If you follow along with me here or on any of my social channels, you will see these brushes make an appearance often. I always have a paint project to do and I will always have a Zibra Paint brush to complete it. Please do yourself a favor and get yourself some of their brushes. You will find the exact brush you need for whatever project you are painting.

For this dresser, I used the fan brush for the paint and the square brush for the wax.

boss

Since this dresser had a very “shiny” finish and it was a really dark red/orange color, I used BOSS before I applied the paint.

I love BOSS and use it on a lot of projects.

House & Canvas said that I didn’t need to use that product, but since I had never used their paint before, I wasn’t sure. BOSS is how you paint furniture without sanding

I wasn’t happy with the top of the dresser after I applied the BOSS, so I took it outside and sanded down the top of the dresser with my orbital sander to make it smooth.

Once the sanding was done, I was ready to paint.

When I applied the green paint, I thought it was a pretty color. I needed to apply a second coat and then the color really start popping. It is a beautiful green.

Once the dresser was painted, I would have left it alone, but, I wanted to try the wax House & Canvas sent me as well.

wax

I used the Zibra square brush to apply the wax to the dresser. I put a heavy coat of the wax over the paint and then I used a cloth to rub off the excess. The wax was so easy to use. I have used a lot of furniture waxes over the years and some are easier to use than others. This one is super easy to work with.

I AM SO GLAD I PUT THE WAX ON THE DRESSER!

I put the original hardware back on the dresser and it was complete.

This green painted dresser makeover is one of my favorite makeovers that I have done recently. Green is my favorite color, so I may be biased, but I think it turned out so pretty.

This is a statement piece that I would use in many different rooms. We don’t have room for it in our home, but I know the person who buys it will have a beautiful piece, full of character to add to their space.

What do you think of the green color?
