“How Flipping Furniture & DIY Changed Our Lives” is a story I never thought I’d write. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have paid more attention to the hints that were given to me along the ride so I could have started a lot earlier than I did.
Now that I know what I know, I want to offer that to you. I want to support you on this journey. I will be talking all about that at the end of this post, but I wanted to give a little history into How Flipping Furniture Changed Our Lives first.
Flipping furniture and DIY was something Matt and I had to do out of necessity in our first house. We moved into that house the day after we got married. I was so excited to have an entire house to decorate just as I wanted. I spent all of my teenage years decorating and organizing my bedroom in my parent’s house, so having an entire house to decorate and organize was extremely exciting to me. The problem was that I quickly found out that our budget was not going to let me decorate as I wanted to. It was very frustrating, but it also made me very determined to figure out how to get what I wanted without breaking the bank.
I have always been a creative person (Hint #1) and being able to push my creativity to figure out a way to decorate our home on a dime was something that made me discover passions I didn’t know I had (Hint #2). When we moved into our second house (the house we are still in now), I continued decorating on a budget and DIYing every part of it that we could. We knew we were going to be in this house longer than the last, so we wanted to really make it ours.
It was in this house that people started noticing the way we were doing things (Hint #3). Friends and family were amazed at how much money we were saving while still being able to decorate how we wanted (Hint #4). As I continued to pick up pieces and make them over to fit our house and our style, I had to sell furniture that wasn’t working any longer. This is when I started seeing that I could make a side income from the pieces we were making over (Hint #5). I started talking to Matt about where I could see this going and he was on board to make it happen. We started going out to “pick” items that we could sell. If they had potential, we would pick them up, make them over and resell them (Hint #6).
Flipping furniture was the side hustle that made things possible for us. I would use the money for things we didn’t want to pay for from our 9 to 5 incomes. The side hustle paid for vacations. It paid down so much debt and eventually after we had kids, it paid the tuition for our kids to go to the school we wanted them to attend.
I didn’t look beyond the local level because it was working out pretty well for what we needed it to, but that all changed after people started talking. People started asking if they could learn from us and/or have us do custom pieces for them. Once I started sharing some of the things we were doing, people would tell me that I needed to get my ideas out there so more people could find me. I had to sit with that for a while because I had no idea how to get my ideas “out there”. I was the person who wasn’t on Facebook and I was also the person who didn’t think other social media platforms were for me.
Fast forward a few years and here we are. This little side hustle has turned into a full-time job for me. “How Flipping Furniture Changed Our Lives” is a story I can write about and know a lot about. Who knew?!
I am so happy with where this has led me, BUT ……. over the last year, I have had this feeling, this “nudge” that I need to do more with the knowledge I have gained throughout this journey.
Not only do I get questions about flipping furniture and DIY projects every week, but whenever I ask what people want me to dive deeper about, it is always about flipping furniture and project ideas.
I know there is a need and over the past year, I have wanted to figure out how to fill that need. Then, a couple of months ago, the answer came to me. I needed to create a membership group! I belong to a few memberships myself and they have been the best investment both for my business and for me personally.
This membership group is something I have never done before, but it is something I am very excited about. If I can help just one person with their goals and teach what I know, then it will be a success. Not only do I want to help more people in an exclusive way, but I want to cultivate a community full of members who understand what we are doing and who can offer support, ideas, and applause to the other members in the group.
Introducing The MCD Creative Squad! A membership group designed to help you conquer your DIY projects, have a community filled with support and give you the tools and resources you need to earn cash selling your DIY projects!
I get excited thinking about the different things we can do in the group, but I want to make it exactly what you want it to be. So, that is why I am offering it to a very limited number of people at the founding member price. The membership will never be this price again, but you will be grandfathered in at this price as long as you stay a part of the group. As a founding member, you will get to help mold this program into exactly what YOU want to learn!
Interested in learning more?
I can’t wait to see you inside the group!
