Repurposed Ironing Board To Chalkboard

2 Mins read

Old, vintage wood is one of my favorite things. I don’t care what it is either; an old table, a mantel, a wood box or an ironing board. If there is old wood on it, I will probably bring it home with me. When I find pieces with old wood that I can’t use as is, I will find a way to repurpose the wood to make it into something we will use in our home. You can’t buy old wood in a store and the patina and character it has is priceless. Vintage, wood ironing boards are one of my favorite things to pick up. There is a lot of wood on the ironing board top and you can make so many different things out of them. I have made a fall sign (find it HERE) and a “lucky” sign that hangs in our bedroom now (find it HERE). This repurposed ironing board turned chalkboard was a great project for the kids to use. It was so easy to do too!

This repurposed ironing board project came to me while folding up one of my vintage ironing boards after we used it for a beverage station during a party.

While folding it up, I thought it looked like an easel (see the picture below).

Right away, I started planning.

I knew this would be the cutest, little chalkboard for the kids!

The first thing I did was paint the top of the board with a couple coats of chalkboard paint.

Then, I asked Matt to cut off the “excess leg” from the legs that stuck out in the back when the board was set up this way.

All chalkboards need storage for chalk and erasers so I searched through my stash of finds in the garage and found an old, wood cheese box. PERFECT for holding chalk and erasers. Matt screwed the box to the bottom of the board in no time. This addition just added more character to this chalkboard.

Our daughter couldn’t wait to get her hands on the new chalkboard.

She dumped every last piece of chalk she could find in the cheese box.
