Chocolate Banana Bread


  • 8 T. butter
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 5 ripe bananas
  • 1 3.4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1.2 tsp. salt
  • 4 T cane sugar or granulated sugar
  • 1/3 c. oatmeal + 3 T
  • 1/3 c. chocolate chips or more if you want it more chocolatey


  • Preheat the oven to 350°.
  • Spray a loaf pan, pie plate or square cake pan with non-stick spray.
  • Mix the first five ingredients together in a bowl.
  • Mix in the bananas.
  • Next, add in the flour, salt and baking soda.
  • Then, mix in the oatmeal and chocolate chips. (You can mix dry and wet in different bowls, but I have never found it to make a difference so I do it all in one bowl to make less mess to pick up when it is all done.)
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and sprinkle the top with the 4 T of sugar and 3 T of oatmeal. This topping makes it a little crunchy on the top.
  • Bake it for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
  • We have always loved adding oatmeal and chocolate chips to banana bread.
